Olive bonsai, Olea europaea

This small olive (Olea europaea) has a thick, gnarled trunk with a hollow worked into it and a low, spreading crown that has just been wired and pruned. It is wider than it is tall, which gives it a sturdy, settled look. It comes in the ceramic pot shown.

The pot

The pot is a grey purple-brown unglazed ceramic, 26 x 19 x H8.5 cm, with recessed panels and scroll feet. The muted clay suits the silver-green leaves.
