Hand-Drawn Ceramic Bonsai Pot – Samurai, Red Sun & Fuji

A square ceramic bonsai pot with a soft white glaze, hand-painted by the potter in indigo blue with a single sweeping scene: a mounted samurai in full armour pausing before a great red rising sun, Mount Fuji and a distant pagoda beyond, a line of cranes crossing the sky as the composition wraps around the corner of the pot. Only the red sun breaks the cobalt-and-white palette. The pot alone is offered here, without any tree or plant.

The brushwork is confident and painterly — washes for the clouds and the mountain's flank, fine dark lines for the armour, the horse's mane and the pagoda's tiers. It is the kind of piece where the container is meant to be looked at as much as any tree it might one day hold, a small painting you can turn in the hand.
