Olive bonsai, Olea europaea arbequina

Arbequina is a Spanish olive cultivar from Catalonia, grown for its small fruit and compact habit. Those traits suit bonsai well. This tree is wider than it is tall, with narrow silver-green leaves and the loose, rounded outline olives make. It comes in the ceramic pot shown.

The pot

The pot is a round ceramic with a lobed, chrysanthemum-style outline and a mottled rust-and-ochre glaze, Ø29 x H11.3 cm. It has a banded rim and three carved cloud feet. The warm glaze picks up the grey-green of the leaves.
