Olive bonsai, Olea europaea

The olive is one of the classic Mediterranean bonsai. It has narrow silver-green leaves and bark that thickens and twists as the tree grows. This one is nearly as wide as it is tall, with a loose, rounded crown. It comes in the ceramic pot shown.

The pot

The pot is unglazed ceramic in a dark chocolate brown, 30.5 x 24 x H11.5 cm. It has incurved corners, a flat rim, waisted walls and a moulded foot band. The dark, matte clay lets the silver-green foliage stand out.
