Japanese Maple bonsai, Acer palmatum 'Deshojo'

'Deshojo' is the Japanese Maple cultivar known for its spring colour. The new growth opens a vivid scarlet and then turns green as the season goes on, so the tree changes look from week to week in spring. This one is styled in tiers, with the branches built in layers up the trunk. The photos show it bare, with the buds just starting to colour. It comes in the ceramic pot shown.

The pot

The pot is a shallow rectangle in unglazed purple-brown ceramic, 25.5 x 18.5 x H6 cm. It has a groove under the rim, a stepped base band and cut feet. The muted clay suits the red spring growth.
