Trident Maple bonsai, landscape planting

This is a raft, or landscape, planting of Trident Maple (Acer buergerianum). Several trunks rise from one connected horizontal base instead of from separate roots, so the group reads as a small stand of trees growing from a fallen trunk. The connected run that joins the stems is about 55 cm long. The leaves are the three-lobed ones Trident Maple is known for, and the tree turns colour and drops its leaves in autumn. It is already planted in the ceramic pot shown.

The pot

The pot is a shallow unglazed oval in dark grey-brown ceramic, 39 x 30 x H3.5 cm. A low pot like this suits a landscape planting, because the trunks and the soil surface stay the focus.
