Trident Maple forest bonsai

The first thing you notice on this Trident Maple (Acer buergerianum) forest is the roots: a dense mat of exposed surface roots spreads across the soil. About seven trunks stand together above it on a mossy mound, so the group reads as a small stand of woodland. The leaves are the three-lobed ones Trident Maple is known for, and the tree changes colour and drops its leaves in autumn. It is already planted in the ceramic pot shown.

The pot

The pot is a dark blue glazed ceramic oval, 44 x 31 x H8.5 cm. A wide, shallow oval is the natural container for a forest planting, because it shows the whole group at once.
